The Pain Of Keeping Sane Following Redundancy

‘I’m in the fight of my life...’

‘I’ve been left questioning whether or not I even have anything to offer anymore…’

‘I’ve been continuously employed for the past 25 years, never before have I found myself out of a job for 4 days, let alone 4 months. This is new to me and I don’t know how to deal with it. People tell me to keep my head up and be positive but is that even possible when you can’t see the wood for the trees?’

‘How many rejections can one person take…?’

It’s heart-breaking to read such comments from people in society, daily.

Before the country went into lockdown, CCP, like many other businesses were championing mental health awareness both internally and amongst our wider professional network, and this hasn’t changed.

Understanding the daily anxieties and stresses which existed; not just within our industry but in the wider general community was, and still is an everyday consideration for our staff. Throw a pandemic into the mix and some 650,000 redundancies across the country in such a short period of time and you can see now, more than ever, just how many people are suffering with their mental health.

Our fragilities as human beings are there to see and with such uncertainties ever-present, it really doesn’t take much to put someone into a state of mental struggle. What may seem to be nondescript to one, may be the trigger to send another into depression.

It’s amazing to see how people are coming together and supporting others both individually and collectively to help those in their time of need. It makes me proud to be part of an amazing business which associates itself with likeminded customers to ensure that we do all we can to minimise the impact on those affected by job losses and more.

Everyone can do their bit to help people along the way when it comes to securing employment. If you see a role on LinkedIn or a job board, hit ‘share’ or forward it to someone who may benefit from seeing it. Endorse the work which you know these individuals have done and highlight the areas in which they excel, perhaps a LinkedIn recommendation. It costs nothing to be kind, helpful and understanding.

For anyone who’s struggling with their mental health, please know that there are people who can help. Talk to friends or family and halve your problem and don’t underestimate the power of your mind to stay strong, you’re more resilient than you think.

You’ve got this!
